Catch Up on D Blog Week - Picture Day

D Blog Week sort of wiped me out - in a good way, of course.

I live alone. I still have good hypo awareness, but always keep a jar of high fructose candies on my nightstand.

The problem is, though, that if I wake up with a bad hypo, I always go into the kitchen in search of something - even though the candy is right in front of my face. I even tried hypnosis a few years back, suggesting that I remember the stuff is within reach. Didn't work.

In the last 5 years, I have had three episodes where I was so low I couldn't walk. I crawled to the kitchen but could not stand up to reach the stash in my cupboard. Very scary.

So, I started keeping a supply on the floor. It is loosely covered. Many people who visit me and see it think I've gotten a pet. (What kind of pet would that be - a candy-coated chihuahua?)

DB teaches us to be great problem-solvers.

As long as we're doing pics, here is my most recent step record - done last Thursday.

And here is my dialysis report card - yes I got a bug sticker.

If anyone is looking for some great summer shoes - these are fabulous. My podiatrist recommended them. Made by Keen. They're are a nice blend of dorky and funky. The junior sales clerk, who looked like he was about 12, said, "now, miss, you can put them in the washing machine, in case they have a lot of mud on them". Best to be prepared...

Are the shoes comfortable?

Interesting shoes, Congratulations on the bug sticker and WOW! 20000 steps!

My problem with your candy jar by your bed is I'd eat it. But it is funny (sort of) how we are so illogical during a low. I had a mild low last week and passed up the bananas and watermelon for calcium chews because I didn't think I had anything else with sugar in it in the house.

Way to go on the pedometer count. I love keens but did not know they had summer shoes, I will be checking them out. I am glad you are back.

Congratulations on the pedometer count! I should get one of those pets you keep on the floor. Last summer, I ended up on the floor with a low. I knew I needed glucose, but could not pull myself up to get them off the nightstand. Good idea!

Great job on the steps and on your report card!!
I wear keens all summer. They're my favorite shoes. I'm such a geek that I even wear mine in the fall with socks. :-)
I keep stashes of low food all over the place. And I certainly can relate to the hypo unawareness. As you know, Dixie has saved me many times.
I thought of you this week. I was at Park Nicollet on Thursday for an endo appt. I couldn't believe how long I had to wait in the lab in the middle of the day. I probably waited about 45 minutes.
Hope this rain lets up soon.

Wow, 20,000 steps in a day. Were you walking in the shower also?

I've had exactly the same problem with looking for a low treatment when I have Dex tablets right by my bed. Often I use them, sometimes I completely forget. #duckfiabetes!
